Designed S.E.R.E.N.E. = Sculptural, Engaging, Refined, Emotional, Narrative, Elegant the conceptual sister to M.A.D—Mechanical Art Devices—where mechanical artistry meets emotional elegance. I reinterpreted M.A.D’s bold, kinetic spirit through a refined, conventional circular design that celebrates precision and emotion in equal measure. With transparent blue elements, visible mechanics, and sculpted proportions, SERENE embodies the poetic balance between innovation and timeless watchmaking tradition.

The Bixin Watch (The Dog Star) reinterprets MB&F’s bold, avant-garde spirit through a more conventional lens. While MB&F is known for sculptural, kinetic timepieces that challenge traditional watch design, this watch embraces a round face and thicker casing while maintaining a bold aesthetic. Thick polished hands with integrated transparent blue accents, partial movement visibility through the dial, and a transparent caseback echo MB&F’s artistry but in a restrained, wearable form. The purpose behind its creation was to explore what MB&F’s DNA might look like if interpreted through a calmer, more grounded personality — one that celebrates traditional watchmaking architecture while maintaining the boldness, creativity, and mechanical storytelling that define the MB&F ethos. SERENE transforms the avant-garde spirit of kinetic horology into something tactile, poetic, and human — balancing mechanical artistry with emotional resonance. It’s not about machines in motion, but emotions in precision; a timepiece that feels alive without needing to defy gravity.
PROBLEM
The main challenge was designing a watch that embodied MB&F’s mechanical artistry while intentionally doing the opposite — creating a bold yet conventional timepiece that felt emotionally resonant rather than purely experimental.
SOLUTION
I focused on crafting a thicker, round-case design with bold metal hands and a transparent blue dial that partially reveals the movement. By merging mechanical storytelling with a refined, classic structure, I achieved a balance between MB&F’s avant-garde DNA and timeless watchmaking elegance.
